Support for Louisiana

The Red Cross has deemed the current flooding in Louisiana the worst natural disaster in the United States since Hurricane Sandy. The pictures of entire towns and communities under water are shocking and disturbing. Barbara Williams, the state President of the Louisiana Christian Women Connection, has seen the devastation with her own eyes in Baton Rouge.

Sister Williams shares, “While my home only experienced a power outage and some family members sustained minor damages, I can truly say I am grateful to our God. However, it is just so heartbreaking to see the devastation around us. Many homes received water damage to full homes being submerged under water, losing everything. As we drive to different places, we see people dumping the insides of their whole homes on the street for garbage pickup. You can’t help but cry when you pass by, but you also have to rejoice in the fact that God spared so many lives."

Even as the flood waters begin to recede, many people are in shelters and unable to return to their homes. Still others are without electricity or phone services. When they do return, the process of cleaning and restoring their homes can be arduous and expensive. Sister Williams reports that sixteen families from her congregation at Faith Chapel Church of God have lost everything. The Faith Chapel building was not touched by the floods. Under the leadership of Pastor Bart Riggins, Faith Chapel has become a hub for donations and distributions. This congregation is working to serve congregants and neighbors in desperate need of help.

This is where we need your help! Faith Chapel has compiled a list of items that are needed immediately. They include:

If you wish to send financial assistance, please direct funds to Christian Women Connection, Attn: Louisiana Flood Relief, PO Box 2328, Anderson, Indiana 46018.

I asked Sister Williams what is one thing she would like us all to remember as we pray for our brothers and sisters in Louisiana. She said, “This week at church we studied Philippians 4:6-7. We don’t always have understanding, but we pray for peace that surpasses understanding. Pray for peace for people that have lost so much. And God is still worthy to be praised. From the rising of the sun ‘til the going down of the same, He’s worthy! From the rain that falls to the waters overflowing, He’s worthy! From the devastation we see to the healing process to come He is worthy to be praised. Continue to pray for Louisiana that those who know the Lord will continue to proclaim His name and use this as an opportunity to share the gospel with all."

Join us in praying and join us in taking action! Together we can make a difference.
