On the 3rd and 4th of January, the ladies of the Church of God in Bolivia gathered together in La Paz to celebrate their 26th Annual Women’s Convention. Approximately 250 women from many parts of Bolivia were present for this weekend event.

The theme for the convention was “Rise and Shine.” Kattia Jones, a missionary of the Church of God got things started off sharing with the ladies on the topic of leadership on Friday night. Other messages included “Apostasy” during the Saturday morning service that started at 5 am, which was then followed by a morning service with the topic “The Armor of God.” The business meeting was held Saturday afternoon, concluding with elections to choose new leaders to guide the ministry of the ladies for the year 2020.

It was an exciting time to see how God used this event to touch the lives of many. After the service Friday night, one lady followed Kattia out of the church, broken and crying. She stated that now she understands what it is to serve the Lord with a pure heart. She confessed she had not been living right even though she had been attending church for many years. Kattia was able to lead her in a prayer of repentance and salvation. May God be glorified.

THEIR MINISTRY FOCUS

Paul and Kattia serve alongside the national church through biblical and ministerial training of lay church leaders. Paul does regular itinerant preaching and evangelism at weekend camp meetings, known as juntas that take place on the date of the churches’ anniversaries. Kattia works with the women’s groups, teaching conferences both locally and nationally. And she supports the youth in youth camps and conferences; and also ministering to children through puppets and other visual aids.

THEIR STORY

The son of Church of God pastors, Paul worked as a mechanic until he felt the clear call of God on his life to be a missionary. In 1992 he graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in international ministries. For the following four years, he served as associate pastor at the Church of God in Odessa, Texas. Then he went as a special assignment missionary (SAM) to Bolivia.
On the way to Bolivia, Paul studied Spanish in Costa Rica, where he met Kattia. In December 1998, he returned to Costa Rica to marry Kattia and they returned to Bolivia to finish his three-year term. In 1999, Paul and Kattia returned to Texas, where Paul served once again as associate pastor in Odessa. Their daughter was born in 2002. In January 2004, Paul and Kattia returned to Bolivia to serve as Global Strategy career missionaries alongside the Church of God in Bolivia.

Kattia was born and raised in Turrialba, Costa Rica, the youngest of six children. Her family converted to Christ when she was twelve years old. She received a degree in English from the University of Costa Rica. While working at a private school, she furthered her education by taking graduate-level courses in translation.
