GA Christian Women Connection
2019 Spring Women's Conference

Saturday, May 4th
Martin Street Church of God
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Arnetta McNeese Bailey
CWC Georgia State President: Rev. Felecia Pearson Smith

We are so excited about Georgia Christian Women Connection (GA CWC) and the blessings that came from their 2019 Spring Conference! This group of amazing women has grown tremendously and God's presence and power is evident through and through. Most women's ministries thrive because of the love and openess to allow God to lead them to build wisely and provide to the needs of their women. Rev. Felecia Pearson Smith and her team started small allowing God to take the lead and we currently see the benefits of patience, diligence, prayer, and yielding to the process in GA CWC. Rev. Dr. Arnetta McNeese Bailey was their speaker for the 2019 Women's Conference and rejoices with the women and how the Lord moved on their hearts that weekend. A message from Steve and Peggy Beverly – Missionaries to Sri Lanka

The 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that occurred on 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, when three Christian churches across Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital Colombo were targeted in a series of suicide bombings. Later that day, there were smaller explosions at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. At least 359 people were killed, including at least 39 foreign nationals and three police officers, and at least 500 were injured.

We are currently on home assignment in the States for seven months after serving three and a half years in Sri Lanka. We arrived April 5, not knowing that our hearts would lie torn and shattered two weeks later by the tragic bombings. Our goal is to return to our mission assignment as soon as possible. In order to return, we must be fully funded. For us, this means we need the equivalent of thirty $100 per month pledges in order to return to Sri Lanka.

While here in the States, we will be assisting our national leaders and pastors in Sri Lanka to prepare an aid response for two of the affected cities. These cities have Church of God pastors eager to help their brothers and sisters in need. Your support for the tragedy in Sri Lanka will be effectively used to demonstrate to all Sri Lankans that Christians will love one another, as Christ commanded us to do.

Ayubowan is the formal greeting in Sri Lanka. Its literal meaning, “long life and prosperity,” rings hollow in the wake of the Easter Sunday bombings of churches and hotels on the island. Sri Lanka is an island nation, just south and east of India. We are Steven and Peggy Beverly, the first missionaries from the Church of God in North America to serve in Sri Lanka.

While in Sri Lanka, we began the process of developing a healthy and growing Church of God that is self-sustaining and producing its own leadership and ministry vision for the island. Our mission includes training and development for leadership, mentoring new leaders, developing community, building churches, developing pastoral care and financial sustainability, and creating a national ministry structure that supports local ministries. THEIR MINISTRY FOCUS

Steven and Peggy work alongside the Church of God in Sri Lanka, partnering to teach and train Sri Lankan pastors and leaders. Together with Sri Lankan church leaders, their goal is to connect pastors across the nation and develop a strong, self-sustaining, and multiplying church. The currently serve as transitional members of the national leadership team.

THEIR STORY

Steven and Peggy Beverly both grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. They lived around the corner from each other and even rode the school bus together. Steven’s father, Sethard Beverly, pastored Third Street Church of God, and Peggy’s father was a construction entrepreneur. Neither Steven nor Peggy knew that God would bring their paths together after thirty years.

Steven graduated from Anderson University and, after teaching journalism in the Cayman Islands, became the associate editor of Vital Christianity magazine. Steven would go on to become editor of ONEvoice! magazine and then a journalism instructor at Ball State University before becoming the marketing manager at a museum. After studying at Emporia State University in Kansas, Peggy attended Rhema Bible Training College, where she felt a call to missions. With the support of her family, Peggy’s call to missions took her on multiple trips to Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Nepal, Thailand, and Israel. After moving to Anderson, she became the itineration specialist for Global Missions (now Global Strategy).

Steven’s and Peggy’s paths crossed again in 2006 during the North American Convention, and they married in 2007. Both have a heart for missions and a desire to fulfill God’s call on their lives. They served together on short-term assignments in Catadupa, Jamaica, and in Poza Rica, Mexico, while making plans to pursue a missionary assignment with Global Strategy.

After much prayer and seeking God’s direction about where he would have them serve, Steven and Peggy felt God’s call to serve in Sri Lanka. Their assignment in Sri Lanka is to work with national leaders to build a healthy, growing national church and to strengthen and support local churches as they spread the gospel in communities that are often hostile to Christianity.
