Rest, Reflect, and Recharge Yourself for the 2019 New Year
In case you want to spend more time savoring, or need an idea of what to do after the holidays, perhaps these ideas will help you:
Rest
Wow, it’s been a holiday season of preparations and busyness. This is the month to rest, take time to savor a few cups of cocoa or coffee, and linger over meals with family or friends. Make it a relaxed month, and don't say yes to anything that isn't urgent. Play with your kids; take a nap; watch a movie, and don’t fuss over the house. Take the time to rejuvenate and be present with those you love most.
Reflect
Take a look back over all the blessings that have come your way in 2018: good news from the doctor, promotions at work, milestones for the kids, travels and adventures, personal growth, and on and on the list could go. Begin collecting those blessings, on paper or in remembrance, and enjoy as you begin to see your cup overflowing with God’s provision and blessings. Even in the hard times as we look back, we can see God’s hand at work in our lives if we take time to reflect.
Recharge
Prepare ye the way for the New Year! After you’ve spent time reflecting over the last year, where do your memories take you? Spend time in God’s word. Is there a word that resonates in your heart? What thought or idea bubbles up from inside of you with anticipation for the next year? Write it down and take time to pray and ponder about how this word is going to shape the year ahead. How can you prepare for what is to come?
1.Make time to rest and be quiet before the Lord.
2.Bring your Bible and a journal.
3.Sit down with some instrumental Christian music to soothe your soul.
4.As you rest before the Lord, pray and ask God to lead you through your scripture reading.
5.Begin to journal what you feel the Lord is speaking to your heart.
6.Start with this: Father, what do you have to say to me today? Then as the thoughts begin to flow, write these in your journal.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27 NLT
Prayer
Father, as I rest in you this day give me direction for the coming year. Share with me a special word from the Bible that will be a light to my path in the New Year. Help me to be a blessing to others and shine forth your light in those around me. Ready me Father for the New Year ahead of us to walk in your statutes with your word bubbling up in me to share the Good News of Jesus Christ!
