 INTRODUCTION

These stories portray a smorgasbord of interesting, humorous, inspiring lives of chilling tear slinging accounts of a few people integrated into the life of the writer. In the life of the writer, mountains and valleys have been more frequent than level plain.  From Mississippi to Chicago, the author tells of her desperate intent to do the right thing which periodically landed her in muddy waters.  Young, naïve, and in love, she was determined to fly high like an eagle but with blurred vision landed her just to the left of her target.  God was always there.

As the valedictorian of her class, she tended to make poor choices by listening to the voice of a different drummer.  She pursued God and a life with Him who continued to rescue her from the awkwardness of her life.  Guided by the best, lured by the complacent and partnering with the slothful created tension at the head of each family unit.  That with her hazy sight versus God’s perfect vision was always greater than her ability to fly.

Dig in with the author and see how God rescues her on every turn. There are BONUS biblical interpretations of three stories and a poem.

Linda L. Braggs is in the business of communications.  She began this journey in Mississippi as an oratorical contestant at ten years old in the Madison County 4-H Club.  Although she retired from Amoco Corporation, Chicago, Illinois as an analyst, she founded its first Toastmasters Club where employees and managers alike attended for tips on making better speeches and presentations.
She was reared in the rural South where Crossroads Church of God, Farmhaven, Mississippi, became a training base for developing skills in singing, speaking and leading.

As an adult, Linda became more interested and involved in speaking, writing and storytelling.  Her involvement in ministry qualified her to be ordained by the state of Illinois later in her Christian journey.  She now preaches, speaks, tells biblical stories, original stories, African American History stories, fairy tales, and more.  Linda was twice privileged to tell at the Goodman Theater in downtown Chicago.  She has told for the National Association of the Church of God which is held annually in Pennsylvania, the Festival Gatherings of the Network of Biblical Storytellers International and NBS Canada; as the resident storyteller for the Church of God state convention in Illinois, many libraries, churches and more.
Linda earned a Master of Arts degree in adult education from National Louis University.  She has earned many awards including "Toastmaster of the Year," and subsequently competed and won the five-county region’s competition.  To further crafting her skills, she maintains active memberships in several local, national and international storytelling groups.

Hanging on for Dear Life: For Hurting Parents
- A Survival Toolkit of Biblical Help and Hope

Book Ordering Information
Hanging on for Dear Life: For Hurting Parents – A Survival Toolkit of Biblical Help and Hope may be ordered online from Amazon.com or from Barnes and Noble.

Introduction

There’s nothing exciting about being forced into the fraternity of hurting parents, but once you are there, the question becomes one of survival—for you, your young adult offspring, your family and the relationships you all share. How do you deal with the issues and heartaches that accompany the drama? And if you’re a Christian, how do you reconcile your understanding of who God is with the situation in which you find yourself? For most parents, understandably, the question becomes, “How can I get through to my son/daughter?” But the question that really needs to be asked maybe, “How can I get a grip on myself, so I don’t do things that make matters worse?”

This book is a toolkit filled little by little—one tool, one difficulty at a time. With these tools, the Lord Jesus Christ upheld me, firmly but tenderly showed me options that lay before me and helped me navigate—giving me fresh perspective—amid heart-wrenching challenges. I shudder to think how I might have how I might have responded absent His help. Amazingly, often unknown to me, at the same time the Lord was helping me, He was wonderfully at work in the lives of our young adult children and our family.
